Welcome back! Summer with kids is so much fun. But let's be real, its hectic too. Finding the right balance of summer day camps, activities, childcare, family travels, and trying to keep our rhythms going at work at the same time can be massively challenging. The return to school feels like the return to normalcy.
Yet the return to school is also the return to the petri dish of infectious pathology! Colds and flus are gonna start coming home with your kids along with the homework assignments. This time of year is a challenge to the immune system. Changes in sleep patterns, long days of activity, and learning so much new material is exciting, but can have our little ones wiped out by the end of the week. These challenges will soon be compounded by the change in seasons. Boosting immune function this time of year is worthy of a bit of extra attention.
First! Remember that immune function is reflective of overall health! This can't be overstated. The food we eat, the amount of sleep we get, the amount of exercise we get, all affect our health and the most important steps to take are to monitor and adjust these. A move toward an earlier bedtime at this point could make more difference than any other intervention. Take the time where possible to be sure your kids are eating well balanced meals and we're starting to break our relationship with summer ice cream cones (soooo good, but super phlegm friendly). In short, you know what habits are conducive to optimum health. Now's the time to move back in that direction.
In our house we also implement a daily immune tonic. "Medi-juice" is part of our morning routine this time of year and will remain so through the next few months. The recipe follows at the bottom of this post and we have copies on hand at Thrive, so be sure to ask when you're in next. We also are offering a discount on the keystone ingredient, Back To School tincture. Back To School is based on a traditional Chinese herbal formula used for centuries in order to boost function of the Wei Qi, or protective energy. Our immune system. Unlike many commonly used 'immune boosters', this formula also deeply nourishes the body rather than only focusing on addressing the pathogenic factor.
So come on in and pick up some Back To School tincture and help your family stay healthy this season!
